Turf News 4/07
Are you prepared for the unexpected?

The winter is finally over. The staff and the equipment are ready for the season ahead. The grass is growing. All that’s left is to execute the plan. And as every superintendent knows, even the best-laid plans can go awry, so learn to expect the unexpected. For all those unexpected situations like hydraulic line breaks and pesticide misapplications, be sure you have some D•Tox Flowable Charcoal on hand to quickly and effectively neutralize them. The difference between rescue and injury (or death) to your turf can be the difference between an immediate and a delayed response.

D•Tox is a dust-free, aqueous, activated charcoal suspension that is easy to use.
With 2 lb. activated charcoal per gallon, it can be used for spill decontamination, soil decontamination, plant protection, seed protection and spray equipment cleaning. Its 4-micron particle size ensures rapid activity in the soil for quick, effective neutralization of spills, leaks, and pesticide misapplications of organic herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, gasoline, motor oil or hydraulic fluid.
In addition, D•Tox is not phytotoxic to fine turf or ornamentals, including nursery stock, bedding plants, sod and seed.

As quickly as possible after a contaminating spill or leak, apply D•Tox at a rate of 1-2 gallons/150 sq.ft. (use the higher rate for more concentrated spills.). Apply D•Tox as undiluted product or dilute one gallon in up to 3 gallons of water. Any type of spray equipment can be used (further dilution may be required for proper spraying). For spot treatment of small spills, pour product directly from the container onto the spill or apply it with a watering can.

D•Tox can also be used to clean spray equipment. After cleaning the tank and hoses with a tank cleaner, fill the tank half full with clean water. Add one gallon of D•Tox for each 100 gallons of water in the tank. Fill the tank completely and agitate/recirculate for 10-15 minutes. Spray out rinsate onto a non-crop area.

Accidents will happen, so plan to keep some D•Tox Flowable Charcoal on hand and be safe rather than sorry.
