This Summer, Call on Sentry to Help Protect Your Golf Course From Mosquitoes

Summer is fast approaching and with it will come invasions of many unwanted pests including biting mosquitoes. While the itch of a mosquito bite may be only mildly annoying to some, mosquitoes can also transmit diseases to humans (including West Nile Virus and Encephalitis) and to our pets (including heartworm). Sentry Mosquito Biolarvicide Granule is a highly selective microbial insecticide that is effective against mosquitoes in a wide variety of habitats. Sentry works by controlling mosquitoes where they breed by killing them before they hatch. The active ingredient in Sentry is Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis, a biological control agent that can be applied to any water site except treated finished water reservoirs or drinking water receptacles. Sentry can be applied directly to areas that contain aquatic life, fish, and plants and to areas used by or in contact with humans, animals, horses, livestock, pets, birds or wildlife.

To control mosquitoes, uniformly apply Sentry with conventional ground equipment or by hand to irrigation ditches, snow melt pools, catch basins, storm water retention areas, lakes, golf course ponds, irrigation ponds, ornamental ponds, water gardens, bird baths, fountains, etc. Use a seven to fourteen day interval between applications. Longer periods of mosquito population suppression can result where sufficient numbers of non-target invertebrate parasites and predators are present. Since these predators and parasites are not affected by Sentry, they contribute to mosquito population reduction. Many conventional pesticides will kill these predators and parasites along with the mosquitoes, negating their beneficial effects on mosquito population control.

Sentry does not control adult mosquitoes, it kills the eggs and larvae. Therefore, treating all water receptacles where mosquitoes can breed is necessary to have an impact on the adult population.
